XS650 stuff

Redid the lower frame section, muuuch better. Slimmed the tanks a bit in all directions & added to the backbone to make it match tanks new profile.

What has the El Camino brought us today?

My son picked up a 1981 Yamaha Seca XJ750 today. He's hoping to later loose his present bike, & the bike payment, & make this his rider. Yes.

This bike is fairly clean, & has what is arguably the ugliest headlight arrangement in motorcycle history.

Today I made weird things.

Made a Brass Fairing Im not sure about. Think I need to open up the hole & let the headlight protrude .

Whats going on with the seat shocks........could it be? A sprung seat for the girl to ride on, so she can accually enjoy the ride like the driver, nutty , huh? I dont think Ive ever seen this done, ever.

To Kill a fly.....Where's Trent?

Where's Trent?

Incase anyones wandered over here wondering why Trent hasnt posted the last few days on BikernetMetric, he tried to Kill a fly, which with Trent being Trent, lead to him needing Medical attention. We dont know if the fly survived.

Give him a few days, he'll be 1/2 as good as new & online sooner then later Im sure. I think.

The cats in the Camino

Any of you that have read my blog for while, know my daughters Blue El Camino, or as I affectionately call it, The Anti Christ.

I finally had to get around to fixing all the broken lights in the front of it from the Deer hit..... because I was told too.

Of course the SS nose has to come off to get to the broken light.....The cats liked their new toy.

Freedom or Death Bike build, Post #5

Got the frame nail down pretty good. Trent wanted a single slow bend for the downtube, Given machinery, time & $ avalible, I made what I could that slightly resembled his vision. 2" gooseneck tube with same bend on bottom. It will be good for stabbing small animals, or trash bags, or whatever you run over. I like it.
Made a variation to Elswick handlebars. The ones he made were gorgeous, but didnt quite blend with the bike, I felt back wacking them, but had to. I used the ends from some old Tomeselli bars that have levers built it. The beautiful solid brass Risers came from Gabe at After Hours Choppers.
De-raked the neck a hair more, so neck matches angle of front of tanks. Still need to cut bottom front corner of tank to match the downtube. Then narrow rears of tanks.
Played with head light a bit. Need to start on fairing & exhuast.

Thank you Mikuni

I was sweating that the oil tank Elswick made for the XS (which is really a super secret secondary gas tank) was going to now have to sit lower then the float bowls & it wouldnt be able to be fully funtional. The I remember the guy from LC Fabrications said they ran a vacuum pump on their OIF triumph that used the frame for gas. I read & learned about snowmobile vacuum pumps & found this lovely dual outlet 30 LPH pump. Problem solved.

Good Night.

Draft Cycle Works, the CB750 guys to know

John & Matt have a combined IQ of 12 million, really. They know CB 750s inside & out, and can make about anything. All they lack is common sense, in a fun way. Matt has a 10 foot long , swingarm 750 that is amazing, & John is building a hardtailed Turbo 750 that will be rediculous. It was nice knowing John. Ill take a picture of whatever he hits, flattens, or impales on the test ride of Turbo bike.

Check them out HERE, watch the video, follow, they will be entertaining I promise.

Pinstripe Chris, where are you? This is hard...

Trying to help a friend recreate the way his tank used to look......we'll see how this works, more later on this fun distraction. I like the little projects. Cut the stencil, spray the paint, untape, a little wetsand over the logo to give it the aged and worn look.......ta daa!

Freedom or Death bike build, Post #4

Tonite I got the neck cleaned up of old welds. I want to reuse it to keep the VIN #.
Started to play a bit the see where I stand with rake, tanks, seat & stuff. Apparently I stand way far away from having it to my liking, in a deep dark hole, with no light.......
Go Me.

Freedom or Death build, post #3

Clean up the old tube joints on the front hoop. Aligned & welded the Elswick tail, & then wacked off the front of the frame :-) More detail & instuction for tail installation here, with a dash of humor of course...... on Chop Cult build thread.

Freedom or Death Build, Post #2

Robert Elswick of Elswick Cycles supplied the wonderful Tail for the bike. It is a complete setup. It comes with weld in slugs for lower tubes & Center downtube, a spacer for rear axle adjuster to work with & meaty, attractive axle plates & adjusters. The tail has the bends in the right spot, kicking up early towards the rear axle. This tails leaves nothing for you to do or fabricate. It even comes with distructions for exactly where to cut, how to center, & weld it on.
